LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 18, 2024) – The Teachers Retirement System of the State of Kentucky recently recognized John V. Boardman, Founder/CEO of Ballast, for his significant contributions and seven years of dedicated service to the Board of Trustees.
Originally appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2017 by Gov. Bevin and reappointed in 2021 by Gov. Beshear, John played a pivotal role as vice chair, member and chair of the Insurance Committee, and a member of the Investment Committee. His efforts contributed to a landmark achievement for Kentucky’s retired, current, and future teachers by ensuring full state budget funding for their pensions, a monumental accomplishment after many years.
Founder of Ballast (formerly Boardman Wealth Planning) in 2005, John has over 22 years of experience and holds the Certified Private Wealth Advisor® (CPWA®) Certification, administered by Investments & Wealth Institute and taught in conjunction with The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. John is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional.

The Kentucky Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS) is administered by an 11-member Board of Trustees. The board consists of 11 members: seven people elected by the membership (four active teachers, one retiree, and two lay trustees); two appointed by the governor with investment experience; the state treasurer; and the state education commissioner. It administers retirement benefits for approximately 365,000 current and former employees of state and local government—through the Kentucky Employees Retirement System (KERS), the County Employees Retirement System (CERS), and the State Police Retirement System (SPRS).
